'A' Base
A crushed 19mm (3/4 inch) minus aggregate consisting of gravel, sand and specific amounts of clay. It is used for roads, foundation bases, driveways and parking lots. ‘A’ Base is usually a finishing material that packs very well. Order extra, will lose 20 %.
'C' Base
A crushed 37mm (1&1/2 inch) minus aggregate consisting of gravel, sand and specific amounts of clay. ‘C’ Base would be used in similar applications to ‘A’ Base and placed prior to the ‘A’ Base if the grade needs to be raised significantly. ‘C’ Base also packs very well.
Pit Run Gravel
The name basically describes this aggregate. It is the raw gravel that is dug out of the bank of a gravel deposit. Tasmanian Gravel Ltd. is fortunate to be able to offer approximately 75mm (3”) minus Pit Run. This means, on average, the stones are 75mm (3” and down) to sand with some clay in the mix as well. Pit Run Gravel is one of the least expensive aggregate products and thus is used to build up grades that are significantly low (prior to ‘A’ or ‘C’ Base) and filling holes.
Traffic Gravel
A 19mm (3/4 inch) crushed stone or screened aggregate with no additional clay added. Used for driveways, parking areas and walking paths. With no additional clay, the surface does not get as muddy as ‘A’ or ‘C’ Base when wet.
Black Dirt/Topsoil
Our topsoil is processed through a screen with a 25mm (1 inch) opening thus removing rocks, sticks and dirt lumps. The soil is a sandy loam which all our customers find easy to work with. Custom blends of topsoil, manure and peat moss are available for commercial job specific applications.
Stucco Sand
This washed sand is a favorite among the stucco trade near and far. A ‘sharp’, well graded, clean and processed sand that is neutral in color offering accurate tinting capabilities.
Bedding Sand
A screened sand that is passing (smaller than) a 12mm (1/2 inch) square opening. Bedding sand is most commonly found around fiberglass and concrete tanks, underground plumbing pipes and electrical cables.
Golf Course Top Dressing Sand
Conforms to USGA specifications and can be used for top dressing as well as green construction and repair. This washed sand is a favorite in sand traps as well.
Golf Course Blend (80/20 blend with peat moss)

Sandbox Sand (washed)
If you want the kids to have hours of fun in the sandbox and stay clean then this is the sand for you! Almost 100% of the clay has been washed out leaving a free flowing ‘beach type’ sand ( it’s the clay in most sands that leaves the deep ‘brown’ color on clothes and hands ).
Washed Sand
This aggregate has been washed through a 1/4 inch (6mm) screen and then had any clay and silt removed in the final processing stages. This material is the answer when a very free flowing, non-packing sand is desired .
Pea Stone
A screened, washed and mostly round aggregate ranging in size from 4mm (1/4 inch) to 10mm (5/8 inch). There is no sand, fines or clay in Pea Stone. Applications include fuel tank beds, landscaping features, playground structures and dog kennels.
Buckshot Stone
Another screened and washed product consisting of rounded stones ranging in size from 2mm (1/8 inch) to 4mm (1/4 inch). Buckshot is a free flowing clean stone aggregate that is commonly used around well cribbing’s and fiberglass tanks for protection. This material also has playground applications as well.
Crusher Chips
This crushed aggregate is produced when breaking down larger rocks. Sizes range from 3mm (1/6 inch) to 8mm (1/3 inch). This material packs well.
3/4 inch (19 mm) Crushed Stone
A clean 100% stone with no sand or fines. Sharp edges and multiple colors make it ideal for landscaping around trees and yard features. A quality aggregate for driveways as well that will limit dirt tracked into homes or garages.
1 1/2 inch (38 mm) 100% Crushed Landscaping Rock
This rock would resemble one that would commonly be found along railroad tracks. It consists of all broken rock at a uniform size. It is commonly used in landscape features where a more ‘rugged look’ is desired. The colors of this stone consist of white, blue, pink and dark colored tones.
1/2 inch – 1 inch (12-25 mm) Round Washed Stone (radon rock)
An alternative to the 3/4 inch Crushed Stone depending on the look one is expecting to achieve. Uses include decorative areas around trees and shrubs as well as walking paths. Being larger than Pea Stone, it is a material suitable where ‘coarser’ drainage rock is desired.
1 inch – 2 1/2 inch Septic Stone
Used for septic field installation and drainage.
1 inch - 4 inch Screened Stone
Used for drainage, landscaping, filling in soft spots in driveways and parking areas.
